Achieve Unmatched Results: Boost High Precision Digging Accuracy by Over 80% with GroundHog

High Precision Digging

California, 25 July 2024 — In an effort to enhance mining operations, GroundHog introduces its new high-precision digging feature. This technology improves ore quality, reduces downtime, and minimizes losses, providing mining operations with better control over meeting project bench goals.

High Precision Digging Technology

GroundHog’s high precision digging technology provides operators with real-time visibility and precise positioning information. This enables operators to guide their equipment along designated points with centimeter-level accuracy. By ensuring digging at exact positions according to the planned dig block, it minimizes ore dilution and enhances ore quality at contact zones.

How Does It Work?

  • GPS RTK Receivers: Two GPS RTK receivers are installed atop the cab.
  • IMU Sensors: Three third-party IMU sensors are installed along the boom.
  • GroundHog FMS Software: The software processes data from the GPS receivers and IMU sensors to calculate the shovel tip’s position. Mine planning teams can upload dig blocks and grade information into the system, which maps them to 3D geofences.
  • Real-Time Tracking: As the shovel digs, the software determines the location, maps it to the geofence of the dig block, and captures both the dig block and grade information. This data is tracked from the source to the destination/stockpile, enabling complete route tracking of the ore.

Material Movement and Reconciliation

  • Real-Time Monitoring: Operators and dispatchers can view dig blocks, ore quality, and location on their screens.
  • Material Movement Tracking: GroundHog OpsCenter tracks material movement from source to destination in real-time, facilitating accurate reconciliation between plan and actual performance at shorter intervals and managing deviations effectively.

Unmatched Precision and Control

  • Precision Bucket Positioning: The system provides high precision bucket positioning within centimeters.
  • Comprehensive Integration: GroundHog’s high precision digging technology integrates with mining operations planning and management systems, offering a holistic solution. It tracks the grade and tonnage of every ore parcel through the mine, ensuring precise control and monitoring—even when the ore is visually indistinguishable from waste. A detailed reporting system provides insights into production volumes and quality, seamlessly integrating with existing mining management systems.

“Our roadmap includes capturing tonnage and data from level sensors. This would enable us to work in different types of terrain and also monitor productivity consistently across all workflows,” says Chanakya Rachakonda, Product Manager at GroundHog.
